Resolutions Are Overrated!

Resolutions Are Overrated! 900 600 Betsy Miller

Ok. Ok.  I know, it’s sort of the law, right?  It’s the New Year so you have to make resolutions.  You must work on those bad habits that keep you from reaching your full potential.  Trust me…I’ve heard the “I must get organized this year” too many times to count.  When I hear people say this, they usually follow up with

“Once I get organized, I know I’ll keep it up.”  This is usually where they lose me.  Don’t get me wrong, I am a GREAT cheerleader —->

I will give you more support than you can ever imagine.  But the truth is, I don’t want you to keep it up.  Why you ask?  It’s called JOB SECURITY!!!!

  • I will cheer your efforts to stop biting your nails.
  • I will welcome your phone calls saying you’re at Krispy Kreme about to fall off the wagon.
  • I will research for you which acupuncturist is the best for that pain in your backside.(And I don’t mean your spouse.)

But I will NOT support your efforts to STAY organized!!  What I will do is help you 2B Organized!  See how I worked that into a sentence?  Clever huh?  I will ALWAYS help you with organizing.  I just ask in return that you don’t go crazy on me and put me out of business.  I think that’s reasonable, don’t you?

So if you insist on making resolutions and organizing makes the list, here are some helpful hints to help you get started.

  • One in, one out.  It’s really simple math.  If for every item you bring into your space you let one go, you will always break even.  New shoes? An old pair must go.  New sheets?  Old set must go.  You get the gist right?
  • Saying things like “I might need it someday” are code for “I’ve never used it but I’m afraid to let it go.”  To that I say put on your big girl panties and let that item find its way to the nearest donation station.
  • Logical organizing.  Papers belong in your office area, not in your kitchen or bedroom.   Toiletries belong in your bathroom, not in your closet or car.  Trash belongs in, well, the trash.  No, not on the floor, counter, under your bed…yada, yada, yada.

Send me your organizing challenges and I will be happy to help you tackle those overwhelming 2017 goals.
