2 Things That Make Your Home Look Cluttered

2 Things That Make Your Home Look Cluttered 900 600 Betsy Miller

Ok, this is just a start really. There’s a LOT more than 2 things that make your home look cluttered. I thought I’d break it down into more manageable numbers so you don’t get overwhelmed. Start with these categories to achieve a more simplified look in your home!

1. Too many picture frames

Let’s be honest. Even your own kids wish that picture from their awkward teenage years that you have displayed prominently on the mantel would disappear. You may think it’s cute, they don’t. It may take you back in time to a place that makes you happy, but they want to crawl in a hole every time they see it.

Oh, and how about that picture you have of your daughter from her FIRST wedding? Yeah, her new husband is NOT a fan of that. So for the sake of family harmony, you might want to make that one disappear too.

Look, we all know you love your family. But filling every flat (and wall) surface with frames full of outdated photos, & some that could make themselves into the bestseller “Awkward Family Photos” book, is not the best way to show your love. Plus, are you dusting all of them? Geez…wouldn’t you rather spend your time doing something else? Maybe watching paint dry?

Utilize technology to your advantage & upload your photos onto your TV. When you’re not watching the latest episode of Hoarders, your photos can be scrolling across the screen for your enjoyment. Just don’t forget to make certain pics “disappear!”

2. Too Many Knick Knacks

Every time I say that phrase I’m reminded of that little song of my childhood….Knick Knack Paddy Whack. Do y’all remember that one? If you do, you’ll have it stuck in your head all day now!

Knick Knacks come in all forms…the above mentioned picture frames, statues, figurines, bowls of potpourri, books, or the dreaded greenery. I’m not saying you have to live with nothing on your coffee table but if said table can’t hold my glass of sweet tea (or vodka) when I go to sit down because of all the “decorative” stuff, then we have a problem. Less is more people. Lose all those dust collectors that make your room look like TJ Maxx, Homegoods, Target, or “insert place here” threw up in there. Don’t be afraid of clear spaces. Trust me when I tell you that less is more…simplify!

There you are. 2 things you can declutter today to turn your home into a more serene & simplified space. Don’t think I’m gonna stop here, I’m just getting started!!
